Cowboy Poet - Mark MacMillan
My Cow Dog
All the cowboys make
fun of that dog of mine,
but he's faithful to me and I say he's just fine!
He ain't like a heeler
although he's got spots,
his are all over - more like poke-a-dots!
He might not be Collie
and his hairs not long,
don't mean when I move cows he can't tag along.
Ya, he's got a couple
of pretty bad habits,
like he'd just as soon head off and chase rabbits,
but he's as faithful as any - right by my side,
'specially when I saddle up to go out and ride.
When we find cows and
start them down the trail,
he's right behind them and he don't never fail.
He may not know how to
work quite right,
but he's right there and never out of sight.
The cows they see a dog
- right at their rear,
and move right along it's just a natural fear.
So he thinks it's fun
that they want to play,
and he stays right behind them all of the way.
When we get the cows
home you can see him grin,
and I'm just as happy cause we did win!
So the hell with those
guys and their expectation
I'm just as happy with my spotted Dalmatian!
